Beginning Glass Beadmaking
Have you seen the beautiful beads made by glass artists? Would you like to try making some yourself? Take this bead-making course taught by Roy Bunnell, who, despite having a degree in Ceramic Engineering is able to make nice beads. Due to equipment limitations, class limit is four students, so register early! Pay instructor $20 supply fee.

Ready, Set, Draw!
Does your kindergartner outdraw you? Come be introduced to drawing fundamentals. Become familiar with graphite pencils, charcoal, erasers, blenders and paper choices. Techniques in sketching, shading and textures will be practiced. Learn to draw what you see rather than what you think you see, bringing depth and realism to your drawings. This class is non-competitive and non-comparative. Leave your judgments behind and have fun! Bring supplies listed on page 18. Pay instructor $5 for paper.

Wire Wrapped Necklace
In just two hours, learn to use silver or gold-filled wire to wrap a cabochon and make a beautiful necklace. Bring a 24” necklace and wear your creation home. Wire and cabochon provided. You may want to bring a 12” ruler, chain-nose pliers (straight or bent) and craft wire nippers. Pay instr. $15 supply fee. Limit 15.

Sterling Silver Viking Chain Necklace
Create a sterling silver necklace using the Viking Chain stitch. This stitch predates knitting and is a form of knotless netting. The stitch is simple and students will be able to complete the chain during the week between classes. The second class will be drawing the chain to length and adding the finishing touches. Pay instructor $55 (includes silver wire and findings) and materials to complete matching bracelet available for additional $25.

Create a variety of cards to have on hand for many occasions. There’s nothing better than getting a homemade card. Learn some neat tricks for card making using metal embellishments, ribbon and more. Perfect Fitting Pants Pattern
From the beginner to the experienced seamstress…this alterations specialist uses a special computer program to make a pattern to fit your specific measurements. Measurements taken the first night, please wear clothing that is close to the skin i.e., exercise tights or thin-fabric pants. Assemble pattern pieces and sew a permanent pattern the second day. Pay instructor $10 for pattern. Supply list on page 18. Limit 10. Bring a lunch and sewing machine on Saturday.

Hand-Pieced Sachet
How did women sew before sewing machines were used? Learn one easy technique for hand piecing. We’ll use muslin foundations to create one small quilt block, which we’ll make into a lavender sachet. If you can handle a needle, you can do this. You’ll be amazed at how simple and fast this can be. This is not a hand quilting or appliqué class, but a hand piecing class. Pay instructor $15 for all materials. Limit 15 ages 12 and older.

Crochet: Open Class
Come learn to crochet—or learn some new stitches and techniques. This will be a go-at-your-own-speed class. If you would like to learn, but have no one to make things for, names of some of our local charities will be provided. Blankets, hats, scarves, baby clothing, etc. are always appreciated by them. Beginners, please bring a G crochet hook with a rounded end and a skein of knitting worsted weight yarn in a plain, light color. Others, please bring a crochet hook that matches the yarn you have.

Basketry Classes
With some good instruction and a little patience you CAN weave a beautiful basket! Learn a variety of valuable techniques in these fun classes. All materials are included in the fees paid to the instructor, Marcia Keefer, who has been weaving for over eight years. However, for your convenience, you may want to bring your own weaving tools, a pair of heavy duty scissors, spray bottle, small bucket or dishpan, measuring tape, small awl or flat-head screwdriver, some clothes pins and a towel. Class limit 10. All classes are held at Southridge HS, Rm D124.

Large Tote Bag
You will look great going to the pool or gym or knitting class with this lovely and roomy basket tote. It’s 14”lX6”WX12”H, and has long leather handles. It’s constructed in plain weave of ⅜” flat reed and beautiful, dark brown Japanese chair cane for weaving interest. The base is filled and there is a choice of rim styles. A good beginner basket. $35 supply fee.

Bird House  Basket
Make a birdhouse basket or “vase” from seagrass. This charming birdhouse may or may not be attractive to birds, but humans love them. These are chunky baskets twined with sea-grass and decorated with a stick of contorted filbert. They are easy and fun to make and a great way to learn twining. $15 supply fee.

Chinese Puzzle Basket
This is a stunning two color basket that is not that hard to do. It starts with a round base. The inside wall is twined up, then the ends are folded down to make the second wall and refolded up to make a crosshatch pattern with the third wall. It’s a really fun basket to make. A knowledge of twining is helpful and can be acquired in the birdhouse class. $15 supply fee.

Working With Wood
Beginners and those with woodworking experience are welcome! At the first class, students will be checked out on the woodshop’s equipment and choose a project. The instructor has a number of items from which you may select, or you may work on your own project. You will also learn the basics on types of wood, wood designs and finishing techniques. Registration deadline: Apr 7. The instructor will contact students prior to class to discuss their class project choice. Pay instructor $5 supply fee.
